Welcome Message from the Head of Department

The Foundation Studies Programme is regarded as the cornerstone for all the College’s undergraduate programmes. It provides the strongest guarantee that entrants to the GCET undergraduate programmes are adequately prepared and more likely to achieve success in their chosen subjects.

The main objectives of GCET’s Foundation Studies Programme are to:

  1. Prepare students to undertake and successfully complete Higher Education programmes in Engineering.
  2. Develop critical thinking and autonomous learning by improving study skills. It also aims to build students’ English proficiency to facilitate study of subjects at undergraduate level.

The Foundation Studies Programme is a combination of General English, English for Academic Purposes, Study Skills, and subject-specific modules in subject areas relevant to Engineering and Technology (Mathematics, IT and Physics).

The main features of the Programme are:

  1. Interactivity where most of the delivery is based on group interactions led by the tutor.
  2. The support provided to students outside scheduled classes. These include Math Support Centre, English Support Centre, English Club, English Debate Competition, English Spelling Competition, Self E-Assessment and Academic Advising.

After successful completion of the Foundation Studies Programme, students may progress to GCET’s undergraduate programmes or exit with a Certificate of Completion.
